The objective of this study was to identify the nutritional state and eating habits in gender perspective in the selection, preparation and consumption of the food, in a mayan community in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. We used anthropometric measures, food consumption frequency surveys and lists of menus in each meal, applied to twenty one domestic groups and in depth interviews to four couples as well. The results show that obesity occurs in adults, mostly women, contrary to what happens in their children, effect of the transformation in the diet of the population, component of the nutritional transition, although the sexual division of labor in the alimentary process are still attached to the hegemonic gender roles.
