There are multiple forms and representations to define poverty, as well as a wide assortment of methods to measure it; nevertheless, this has not been reflected in decreasing this social problem. Based on that, the aim of this work is to show the existing interrelationship between the different conceptualizations and methodologies used to measure poverty and the social policy developed by the Mexican government, from the seventies of the previous century to the beginning of the 21st century.
