MACIAS MACIAS, Alejandro. Zonas hortofrutícolas emergentes en México ¿Viabilidad de largo plazo o coyuntura de corto plazo? La producción de aguacate en el sur de Jalisco. Estud. soc [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.36, pp.203-235. ISSN 0188-4557.
Avocado production has been the most dynamic crop in Southern Jalisco during the present decade of the twenty-first century. This corresponds to changes in the trade relationship between Mexico and the United States since the 1990's, as well as to the closeness of this region to the state of Michoacán, regarded as the main producing area. This economic activity, which is presented as a potential booster of the regional economy, is part of an agricultural- industrial model that, in search of economic profitability, can become a predator of local resources, increasing their vulnerability levels, both economically and environmentally.
