The transition to a pensions system of individual capitalization undertaken by Chile in 1981 marked a break with respect to the estimated particular forms to be adopted by the social security system, in the traditional model of the welfare state. After 28 years of the mentioned reform, in the context of an intense criticism, this paper analyzes the current implications of the model of pensions based on individual savings, being administered by private organisms.
