Abstract

BRAVO PENA, Luis Carlos; CASTELLANOS VILLEGAS, Alejandro E.  and  DOODE MATSUMOTO, Olga Shoko. Sequía agropecuaria y vulnerabilidad en el centro oriente de Sonora: Un caso de estudio enfocado a la actividad ganadera de producción y exportación de becerros. It is possible to speak about agricultural and cattle drought when precipitation shortages affect the development of cultivations and the necessities of cattle activities. The social impacts of this type of drought are related to productive practices and rural policies that modify the social capacity to resist and to adapt to one period without rain. In this work we enumerate some factors that determine the vulnerability of cattle producers from La Colorada, a municipality located in the arid Northwest of Mexico, facing the drought. We identify their strategies to manage this phenomenon, and we also discuss the correspondence among the actions promoted by the programs of agricultural development, and the real necessities of the cattle sector to face an event as the drought.

Keywords : agricultural and cattle drought; vulnerability; cattle producers.
