VALDEZ-GARDEA, Gloria Ciria. Pesquerías globalizadas: revisitando a la comunidad marítima en el Alto Golfo de California. Estud. soc [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.35, pp.135-163. ISSN 0188-4557.

Rocky Point, a community located in the Upper Gulf of California, leads the consequences of the structural transformation in the Mexican fishery. This area now shows disarticulations caused by urban growth and tourism that has left the fish production and economic activity identity marginalized. Tourism development has impacted residents differentially, the perceptions of these impacts on social, cultural and economic life are diverse among locals. Maritime anthropology presents challenges in the study of what I call Globalized Fisheries: spaces in transition, hybrids where new environments are created, which circumscribe, appropriate and compete for spaces, landscapes and natural resources, which have been experienced, sensed and traditionally practiced by the natural resource users: fishermen.

Palavras-chave : Rocky Point; discourses; globalized fisheries; tourism; fishermen; Maritime anthropology.
