Economic growth in the State of Yucatan has been directed mostly towards the tertiary sector (services) in spite of the instability and precarious situation of the primary sector, represented by a wide and impoverished rural sector living marginality. The former henequen-growing zone is a representative geographic reference, where the present case study was conducted and two moments in the formation and construction of the Ixchel group. Such a group is formed by women artisans in the Mayan community of Sahcaba, Yucatan, Mexico. First, we highlight the different ways in which women reached agreements with their male counterparts that enabled them to re-accommodate their domestic activities, so that more time could be dedicated to group organization and administration. Secondly, we analyze the group internal conflict and the decision making power in a single person, unresolved collective facts that resulted in group rupture. Both situations are explained from direct experiences shared by women from Ixchel Group.
