The current social and political challenges are broadly discussed by Zygmunt Bauman and Celso Furtado. Their analyses, although distinct in some aspects, agree in others, since they deal with the same world, that is, the globalized world and its consequences in the several fields of social life. Their writings reveal the current perplexities of the two men of science concerned with the long courses that the progressive social forces will have to follow in order to make prevail, in the political arena, the constant search for ways to questioning important issues like exclusions, inequalities, profit and power concentration. Such challenges are enormous for all countries, but they are bigger for the underdeveloped nations which are affected more drastically by globalization. This happens because, in those nations, civil society was not able to constitute itself in a counterbalance for the concentrative power of the capital.
