The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the concept of city-region and to the possible problems encountered in its construction. With this purpose in mind, an introduction is made on globalization, that sort of contemporary mantra and back screen of almost all processes of change, urbanization among them. Some concepts that have tried to overcome the traditional idea of city are examined and, taking those concepts as a starter point, a new definition of city-region is made. Some of the problems superimposed in its construction are discussed and brief comments on the specific case of the city of Bogotá and the department of Cundinamarca are presented.
