Abstract

CAMARENA GOMEZ, Beatriz Olivia. La educación ambiental en el marco de los foros internacionales: una alternativa de desarrollo. Estud. soc [online]. 2006, vol.14, n.28, pp.07-42. ISSN 0188-4557.

This work presents a brief characterization about the contemporary environmental problem and outlines the environmental education development within the framework of the international forums. The importance of working in the conformation of an informed, conscious and organized civil society is recognized. This implies to identify and to analyze the real conditions of environmental know-how's assimilation within the legitimized paradigms of knowledge; and in the educational area, to identify the pedagogical methods that facilitate the transmission of this environmental learning under construction. In the first section the environmental problem is defined and, due to the relevant role it plays in tackling this aspect, the complexity principle is taken into consideration. It also emphasizes the origin of certain conceptualization that links the analysis of the environmental problematic to the wide connotations of the terms global environment and knowledge crisis. Afterward, a review of the international forums on environmental education carried out during the decades of the 1980s and 1990s is made; these forums placed environmental education as the central subject of their agendas to point out some of the resultant proposals and educational principles of the above wider processes. Lastly, the scenario about environment education in Mexico and some final remarks are sketched.

Keywords : environmental education; complexity; global environment; knowledge crisis.
