Resumen

DAVILA, Alejandro  y  VALDES, Miriam. Relevance of Exports for Mexican Economy. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2018, n.spe4, pp.11-44. ISSN 2448-7481.  https://doi.org/10.24275/etypuam/ne/e042018/davila.

What could be the impacts on the most important variables of the Mexican economy due to the eventual modification of the commercial relationship of Mexico with the United States of America (USA) and Canada, derived from the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)? This paper seeks to provide elements of response by calculating total elasticities to changes in exports and final exogenous demand. For this purpose, an expanded Leontief production model is built, based on the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) of the Mexican economy for year 2013.

Total elasticities are computed following Richard Stone (1985) method. This is an applied research on the Mexican economy, with a procedure not used in Mexico with SAM's models and whose main interest lies in addressing a relevant issue of the current economic situation.
