MOSQUEDA RIVERA, Raquel. The Holy Word. Violence and Language in Balún-Canán. Lit. mex [online]. 2019, vol.30, n.1, pp.43-66. ISSN 2448-8216.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.litmex.30.1.2019.1158.

This paper explores the itinerary followed in Balún-Canán, iconic novel by the Mexican writer Rosario Castellanos, through two apparently contradicting elements: violence and language. This route passes through several “moments” in which a series of disagreements between the written word and the spoken word are brought forward, as well as the different dimensions giving protagonists of this novel on the one hand the “use of the word” and on the other hand, one of the most representative forms of violence: “the use of silence.” Therefore, language is not merely a form of domination, but a dimension of space-time where silence acquires multiple meanings.
