Three seemingly dissimilar texts from the seventies have one feature in common: they present their author as an ethnographer, a significant fact since it problematizes, from the literary universe’s standpoint, the role of ethnography in configuring specific cultural entities. In this article, the role of the ethnographer is discussed, as postmodern anthropology has understood it, while comparing the work of Mexican literature in representing unofficial voices. La noche de Tlatelolco. Testimonios de la historia oral (1971) by Elena Poniatowska, Chin Chin el teporocho (1972) by Armando Ramírez and Vida de María Sabina, la sabia de los hongos (1976) by Álvaro Estrada are analyzed.
