This article addresses the circulation of false news about the imports of Chinese nopal into Mexico in Mexico City's borough of Milpa Alta. By considering different journalistic versions about said topic, this research establishes a link between the interests of social actors and the mobilization of a collective historical, ethnic and economic rationale that resulted in the dissemination of rumours.
