Resumen

SCHNEIDER SEVERO, Patrícia  y  SACCO DOS ANJOS, Flávio. Clandestine, invisible, and essential: Rural workers in southern Brazil. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2022, vol.84, n.3, pp.539-566.  Epub 01-Ago-2022. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2022.3.60317.

Peach cultivation was brought to Brazil’s far south by European immigrants. It is an eminently family activity, whose production is mainly destined to the manufacture of preserves. Despite its family nature, persiculture requires the use of hired labor. However, demographic changes affecting the countryside and low economic returns threaten its future. The objective of this paper is to reveal the work relations between peach producers and harvesters, which are marked by their informality, invisibility, and clandestine nature.

Palabras llave : family farming; rural labor; work relationships; peach; Brazil.
