Abstract
ESAU, Aaron and FIGUEROA, Silvia. Sexual democracy, meanings and inequality in Big Concepción, Chile. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2022, vol.84, n.1, pp.65-97. Epub Mar 22, 2022. ISSN 2594-0651. https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2022.1.60225.
This paper addresses the issue of sexual democracy in contexts of structural inequality. For this, a qualitative study was carried out in Concepción, Chile, through a critical discourse analysis of the meanings that various social groups attach to sexuality and its changes. This responds to doubts about the possibilities of a truly extensive sexual democracy for all people. The main results point to contrasting meanings between groups and a clear differentiation in their relationship with sexuality and their social and political processes, thereby revealing new forms of domination, exclusion and socio-sexual inequality.
Keywords : sexuality; sexual democracy; structural inequality; discourse analysis; critical discourse analysis.
