This text reviews Elinor Ostrom's work, taking into account the paradigmatic breaks in it and suggesting that her central contribution was to construct a broad frame of reference for analysis. With the help of quotations from the author, it depicts the development of her thought and proposals. It analyzes the influence of various authors, including Douglass North, Oliver Williamson and Vincent Ostrom, on the evolution of the concepts.
