Abstract

MARTINEZ, María Antonia  and  GARRIDO, Antonio. Descriptive and substantive representation: the double gender gap in Latin America. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2013, vol.75, n.3, pp.407-438. ISSN 2594-0651.

This study seeks to determine the impact of quota laws in the cases of Mexico and Argentina, and compare the results with two other countries where there is no legislation to promote the presence of women in the parliamentary arena: Chile and Uruguay. It addresses the specific work of legislators regarding sectoral areas of interest for new representatives, and the impact that the increase in the female legislative contingent has had on the political agenda and, specifically, on the gender agenda and equality policies.

Keywords : quality of democracy; political representation; gender studies; femocracies.
