PEREYRA, Guillermo. Mexico: criminal violence and "war on drug trafficking". Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2012, vol.74, n.3, pp.429-460. ISSN 2594-0651.
This article analyzes the power relations in Mexico that determine the current violence perpetrated by illegal drug groups and the "war on drug trafficking" declared by the government of Felipe Calderón. Analyzing the co-existence of two forms of power (sovereignty and governmentality), the author seeks to understand the logic of the power of drug trafficking and the militarized fight that the government is waging against drug organizations. He also discusses the main factors that have contributed to increasing criminal and military violence in recent years.
