Abstract

ALLIER MONTANO, Eugenia. Present and Past of '68 in Mexico: A Historicization of the Public Memories of the Student Movement, 1968-2007. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2009, vol.71, n.2, pp.287-317. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article studies the memories in the Mexican public space over the past forty years. Although it of 1968 is possible to find a memory of the denunciation of repression associated with October 2 since 1969, it is only from the mid-1980s that we can locate a memory of praise of the student movement as a whole, since it is considered to have paved the way for democratization of the country. The article analyzes what present narratives are enunciated and events recalled, and what kind of past is recovered. Whit this purpose public memories are historicized from the various political presents from which they are expressed.

Keywords : student movement; 1968; memory; history; democracy; repression.
