NAVARRO YANEZ, Clemente J. y HERRERA GUTIERREZ, María Rosa. Micro and Macro Context of Collective Protest: Latin America in the 1990s. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2009, vol.71, n.1, pp.83-130. ISSN 2594-0651.
Are institutional designs and dynamics relevant as structures of political opportunities to citizens' political participation in collective protest actions? This article undertakes a contextual analysis comparing nine countries in the region and shows the importance of a "rule of institutional transformation" whereby individual resources, attitudes and social capital are or are not transformed into contentious political participation on the part of citizens. This shows the importance of this dimension of politico-institutional systems, and above all the heterogeneity of " Latin American cases" and its effects on their respective citizenrys.
