Resumen

PERERA DIAZ, Aisnara  y  MERINO FUENTES, María de los Ángeles. Slavery, Family and Parish in Cuba: A Different view from Microhistory. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2006, vol.68, n.1, pp.137-179. ISSN 2594-0651.

The method of parish reconstruction has had no followers in Cuba, particularly in relation to black families living in slavery or freedom. The main reason for this have been the attempts to uncritically apply the models drawn up by European demographic historians. Our methodological proposal, supported by the reconstruction of over five hundred families throughout the 19th century, can be applied to all parts of the region where series of parish records have been preserved. In this way, we would have an excellent geography of Cuban black families, with their possible points of contact and regional variations.

Palabras llave : slavery; family; parish records; cross-referencing sources.
