TAMEZ GONZALEZ, Silvia e VALLE ARCOS, Rosa Irene. Social inequality and neoliberal reform in health. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2005, vol.67, n.2, pp.321-356. ISSN 2594-0651.
Through the reform of the health sector, the Mexican federal administration has fostered the expansion of the private sector and the social security crisis. The new face of the institution reflects the change in the state's participation, the separation between financing functions and service provision, financial decentralization and competition. This study highlights the inequalities of the National Health System as regards access to health services and describes how nowadays, it comprises a mix between public and private that exacerbates inequality in access to health services, since this access is determined by the population's ability to pay.
