Resumen

CHAMIZO, José Antonio. From ‘philosophical air’ to ‘chemical airs’. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.spe, pp.99-115.  Epub 28-Feb-2022. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.4.80329.

Air is one of the four elements that emerged with Greek philosophy. The ‘philosophical air’ was transformed over the years and particularly from the First Chemical Revolution into a diversity of ‘chemical airs’, which with the development of experimental chemical practices and the inclusion of various instruments could be identified in extraordinarily small amounts. The purity of chemical substances is part of a technical trajectory, which at the end of the 20th century led to the emergence of atmospheric chemistry, whose main protagonists were J. Lovelock, S. Rowland and M. Molina.

Palabras llave : Air; chemical practices; chemical revolutions; purity; morals.
