REINA, Miguel y REINA, Antonio. Safety rules and regulations for undergraduate laboratories: an experimental approach. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.4, pp.45-58. Epub 28-Feb-2022. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.5.78772.
This paper offers a laboratory experiment oriented on safety rules and regulations for first-year undergraduates in chemistry. Across this document, students are guided through experimental set-ups to understand why wearing safety clothes and following safety procedures are critical actions to reduce risks. Moreover, students learn how to read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), how to recognize and manage acid and basic solutions, learn about coat and gloves resistance to chemical products and proper waste disposal. Additionally, a detailed guide for teachers is provided including the complete answers to the proposed questionnaire. This work seeks to provide students with the necessary tools to prevent accidents and learn how to respond to danger in a basic and research chemistry laboratory.
