Abstract

DEROSSI, Ingrid Nunes  and  FREITAS-REIS, Ivoni. A 19th century scientific educator and some issues faced by her: Marie Curie overcoming gender prejudices. Educ. quím [online]. 2019, vol.30, n.4, pp.89-97.  Epub Nov 25, 2019. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2019.4.68526.

This article approach the relationship of women in science, focusing especially on the moments of discrimination experienced by the scientist and educator Marie Curie (1867-1934). The objective is to provide a brief overview of women’s participation in this area, highlighting some of the sexist obstacles that the scientist had to overcome in order to achieve the goal that she affirmed to follow from youth since youth: to be useful to society. This woman of unquestionable importance for the scientific development, Madame Curie is, nevertheless, most often cited in academic circles, but with partial knowledge of their lives by the students, due to the predominantly male chauvinist character of the scientific community. This fact increase the relevance and necessity of the wide dissemination of the work of these women in all the school segments.
