This work describes a training program for high school teachers: the Master Degree on Teaching at High School Level (MADEMS). Two evaluations on the curricular structure of this program are reported in connection with the approach of competences. Later, the competences proposed by two other master programs are considered and compared to MADEMS, one program is in education and another one in science. Finally, some actions undertaken in this program for the profesionalization of Physics teaching that take into account the approach of competences are presented. As an example of application, these actions refer to two types of courses: one concerns the theoretical and methodological foundations of the discipline and the other the practice of teaching.
