Abstract

This article shows the vitality and capacity charges system has to adapt to new conditions. The unit of analysis is the stewardship of the Virgin of the Rosary in the neighborhood of Xochimilco, Oaxaca City. This neighborhood was choosen because of its history: it emerged in the era of Mesoamerica; in the colonial one it acquired the characteristics to distinguish it today: a strong religious fervor to the Virgin of the Rosary; in the nineteenth century, as a municipality, the charge system evolves, and in the twentieth century amends again when it loses its municipality.
