Abstract

GIMENEZ BELIVEAU, Verónica. The Triple Frontier and its Representations: Politicians' and Government Officials' Views on the Frontier. Frontera norte [online]. 2011, vol.23, n.46, pp.7-34. ISSN 2594-0260.

This article studies the representations of politicians and government officials from the neighboring cities of Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este of political actions and the region in which they live: the Triple Frontier where Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet. The Triple Frontier is characterized by the construction of transnational imaginaries and is a space in which three cities converge and develop spontaneous dynamics related to business, culture and population. Studying the exchange between government officials and politicians, and the representations they have of their own activities and those of the country as a whole serves as a starting point for understanding the circulations of imaginaries in border areas, by studying the local dynamics marked by the asymmetries between the countries.

Keywords : "Triple Frontier"; representations; government officials; politics; Mercosur.
