Abstract

This article analyzes the discussions of the meaning of the categories of "authoctony" nowadays in Lago Puelo -the Andean Administrative Division o of the 42nd Parallel , northeast of Chubut, in Patagonia, Argentina-, its link with certain rights and demands of the Mapuche people and the role of archaeological heritage in the process of this authocthonization within changing hegemonic processes. This form of categorization is central to the construction of the political identities of indigenous people and the configuration of their demands as well as public policies designed to acknowledge their rights.
