This article analiyses if the development of financial markets in North American countries means that financial systems structures are becoming market based and if this is shaping corporate financial structures in the same way. Data shows that there is no convergence of both structures toward a market based architecture. We conclude that public policies aimed to modify financial system structure have little influence in corporate financial choices.
