This article reports on the results of research on a group of families participating in an assisted self-building project that took place in Saltillo and will soon be applied in Ciudad Juárez. The project's goal was to test the viability of a technology based on the use of prefabricated materials, which was developed in poor neighborhoods in Saltillo using a self-building plan and a gendered perspective. The project was based on the idea that solidarity networks, which are woven around the building of a family home, are an intangible asset that is insufficiently served by social programs on housing, particularly, organized and assisted self-building programs. The results consider the utility of this type of support for low-income sectors.
