Abstract

PENA MEDINA, Sergio. Comercio transfronterizo y su impacto en la región de El Paso-Ciudad Juárez: Una propuesta de financiamiento de la planeación binacional. Frontera norte [online]. 2003, vol.15, n.29, pp.185-200. ISSN 2594-0260.

The present article analyzes the impact of crossborder trade in the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez region, understood as the value or expenditures of Mexican shoppers in El Paso. The results show that the reported values of the retail gross sales in El Paso exceeds in 33% the adjusted value of the model, which it could be interpreted as the effect of crossborder shopping. The sales tax product of this effect adds to 125 million dollars, which is equal to gross expenditures of the Juarez municipality. The article emphasizes the potential that these resources could have to finance binational urban development.

Keywords : binational trade; crossborder relation; sales; Mexico; El Paso-Ciudad Juarez.
