FLORES-CRUZ, María; SANTANA-LIRA, Hugo D.; MARTINEZ-BERNAL, Angélica y FRAILE, Ma. Eugenia. Pollen Morphology of Mimosa series Quadrivalves (Leguminosae, Mimosoideae). Act. Bot. Mex [online]. 2006, n.77, pp.1-13. ISSN 2448-7589.
The morphology of acetolized pollen grains of 16 taxa and two variants of the genus Mimosa, section Batocaulon, series Quadrivalves, is described by means of light and scanning electron microscopy. All members of the Quadrivalves series have pollen grains grouped in crossed, slightly compressed, elliptic shaped tetrads, with longer diameter measuring 27-47 μm, and the shorter one 24-39 μm. The apertures are of porate type, and the ornamentation is verrucate or microverrucate. This study of pollen grains was useful to unify all the members of the series Quadrivalves, and distinguish them from other series within the same genus. Thus, the series is established as a homogenous group, from the palynological point of view, where all the taxa are closely related.
