Resumen

LOPEZ LEVI, Liliana  y  FIGUEROA DIAZ, María Elena. Visual arts and territorialization processes. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.71, pp.169-192. ISSN 0187-5795.

Bounds between society and territory respond to concrete realities. In the case of Mexico, the crisis caused by violence and drug traffic generates, on one hand, physical and symbolic processes of deterritorialization, and on the other, reterritorialization derived from cultural practices that allow people to cope with the situation. This paper analyzes these processes, based on society-territory relations represented and generated from visual arts. The initial hypothesis is that arts construct sense strategies that allow people assimilate a crisis situation. Methodologically, we use Greimas' semiotics to analyze the case of Mexican artists, who's work deals with drug traffick and violence. The abovementioned allow us to discuss their implications in terms of deterritorialization / reterritorialization.

Palabras llave : Deterritorialization; Reterritorialization; Visual arts; Violence; Drug trafficking.
