Abstract

BUENO CASTELLANOS, Carmen. El rol de las mujeres en los cambios y continuidades de la economía informal. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.60, pp.211-239. ISSN 0187-5795.

This article analyzes the evolution of the different approaches given to the informal sector. In this trajectory, it is stated that this sector not only has persisted through time but also, has demonstrated a great capacity to reinvent itself and to diversify its activities. The link between gender and informality were not included simultaneously in the agendas of international agencies nor in the plans and projects of national governments. It was necessary that the feminist movements attract the attention of the public opinion in order that the differences in labor conditions, between men and women, were considered. Today, gender specificity is integrated in the agenda of the millennium by international agencies. The purpose is to move forward on the observance of decent work, fair trade and human rights as intrinsic to productive activities ascribed as informal.

Keywords : Informal sector; gender; development policies.
