Three anthropological problems receive the attention in this article: the problematic concept of "community", the institution known as the "cargo system", a best-seller in Mesoamerican (and Andean) anthropology, and the development during the last 20 years of the approach known as "communalism", which offers the indigenous (autochtonous) peoples the methods and the knowledge that until today have been the monopoly of the "developed" European and American peoples.
