Several tendencies interlace in the interpretation of the character of the indigenist movements in particular and of the Latin-Americans identities in general. Departing from the lecture of Memoria y utopía en México. Imaginarios en la génesis del neozapatismo, this article argues the hypothesis of the westernization of Mexico. Its purpose is to tackle the imaginaries from a historic and philosophic perspective and to show some of the possibilities to the reformulation of the concepts and identities that rises from the cultural anthropology.
