The cactus mucilage contains polysaccharides that can influence the enzymatic activity of the soil. Two soils were used, sandy (63%) and clay (67%), three doses tested cactus mucilage; T80-20, T40-60, T10-90 (percentage of mucilage-water), plus control with only water. The treatments were placed in a controlled environment chamber at 25 °C and humidity of 40%, samples at 7, 14 and 21 days after application of the mucilage were taken. The enzyme activity was assessed; amylase, cellulase, lipase and invertase, involved in the carbon cycle to see the effect of mucilage in the activity of these enzymes. After 21 days in clay soil, T80-20 treatment had greater activity in the amylase enzyme (91 mg of reducing sugars 10 g-1 dry matter 24 h-1), lipase (133.33 nM 4-methyl umbelliferon g-1 dry matter 24 h-1) and invertase (5.53 mg glucose 10 g-1 dry matter 24 h-1) and T40-60 cellulase treatment had the highest activity (72.66 ug glucose mg-1 24 h-1 dry matter). In the sandy soil after 21 days treatment T80-20 was the largest for lipase enzyme (60.66 nM 4-methyl umbelliferone g-1 dry matter 24 h-1), the T40-60 for invertase enzyme (1.86 mg glucose10 g-1 dry matter 24 h-1) and cellulase (33.66 ug glucose g-1 24 h-1 dry matter) and T10-90 for amylase enzyme (43.66 mg of reducing sugars 10 g-1 of 24 h-1 dry matter).The cactus mucilage increased enzymatic activity (amylase, cellulase, lipase and invertase) in both soil types.
