Abstract

TUCUCH HAAS, Cesar J.; ALCANTAR GONZALEZ, Gabriel  and  LARQUE SAAVEDRA, Alfonso. Effect of salicylic acid on root growth and total biomass of wheat seedlings. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.1, pp.63-68. ISSN 2395-8030.

This paper reports the results of two independent experiments aimed to evaluate the effect of salicylic acid on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings. Wheat seedlings were grown in agrolite substrate contained in PVC tubes in open field conditions. Treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with eight replicates per treatment. The seedlings were sprayed during 5 days with either 1 or 0.01µM salicylic acid (SA) or water as a control treatment. Ten days later, they were harvested and measured. The results showed that SA significantly increases root fresh weight and shoot length as well as the total fresh weight biomass, relative to the water control. The treatment that stimulated the most growth of wheat seedlings was 1µM SA.

Keywords : grasses; root growth; growth regulator.
