Resumen

ESPINOSA VICTORIA, David. The Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils and the Mexican Society of Soil Science. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.4, pp.339-346. ISSN 2395-8030.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Organization created the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) through the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), during its first Plenary Assembly held June 11-12, 2013, in the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The ITPS was formed by 27 top soil experts: five from Africa, 5 from Asia, 5 from Latin America and Caribbean, 5 from Europe, 3 from the Middle East, 2 from North America and 2 from the Pacific Southwest. The experts act in a personal capacity and they do not receive instructions from any government or institution. The main function of the ITPS is to provide technical-scientific advice and orientation on global soil topics to the GSP, primarily, and on specific request submitted by regional and global institutions. The ITPS promotes sustainable soil management in the sustainable development programs all over the world. The Regional Soil Partnerships, which work in coordination with FAO regional offices, maintain an advisory process with national and regional entities. The Mexican Soil Science Society (MSSS) is one of these regional entities, having gained membership in 2013.
