GONZALEZ CUETO, Omar; HERRERA SUAREZ, Miguel; IGLESIAS CORONEL, Ciro E. e LOPEZ BRAVO, Elvis. Validation of the extended drucker prager and modified drucker prager constitutive models for a rhodic ferralsol soil. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.4, pp.283-290. ISSN 2395-8030.
The application of the Finite Elements Method (FEM) to the solution of soil compaction problems needs constitutive models validated for soils in tropical conditions. This research was carried out with the objective of validating the Extended Drucker Prager (DPE) and Modified Drucker Prager (DPM) constitutive models in a Rhodic Ferralsol soil. The methodology used included the development, in software Abaqus/Standard 6.8-1, of a model in FEM that simulates a triaxial test, from which the stress-strain curve of the soil was predicted. The material properties were represented with the DPE and DPM constitutive models. For model validation, triaxial tests on remolded specimens of the target soil were conducted. The statistics of Kolmogorov-Smirnov (P < 0.05) show the appropriate adjustment between experimental results and predictions, when the DPE and DPM constitutive models are used to represent the mechanical response of a Rhodic Ferralsol soil, under conditions of both brittle and plastic failure. These results validate both constitutive models for their use as material models in the implementation of the FEM in the solution of soil compaction problems. The DPE model demands less computational power and requires fewer constitutive parameters, and these can be obtained with the equipment traditionally available in the laboratories of soil mechanics, which makes its use more affordable.
