Resumen

MANZANO BANDA, Juana Irma; RIVERA ORTIZ, Patricio; BRIONES ENCINIA, Florencio  y  ZAMORA TOVAR, Carlos. Rehabilitation of saline-sodic soils: a case study in irrigation district 086, Jimenez, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.3, pp.211-219. ISSN 2395-8030.

The effects of cattle manure, gypsum, sulfuric acid, and flushing water application on contents of soluble salts and sodium rate were evaluated in two saline-sodic soils of the 086 Irrigation District in Jimenez, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Portions of 6 kg of soils were used in pots in a greenhouse to assay two levels of saline-sodicity (soil Carretas with moderate saline-sodicity levels and the soil Macahuistle with high levels), two inorganic soil amendments (gypsum and sulfuric acid) and one organic soil amendment (cattle manure). The experimental design was completely randomized with a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial arrangement. Response variables were electric conductivity (EC), exchange sodium percent (ESP) and pH. As a result of treatments, the initial EC in soils Carretas and Macahuistle, 7.75 and 22.2 dS m-1, was diminished to values lower than 4 dS m-1. ESP of the soil Carretas (18.4) and Macahuistle (34) were lowered to less than 8. Finally, the initial pH of 7.8 in the soil Carretas and 8 in the soil Macahuistle decreased to 7.4. Flushing water reduced salinity and sodicity of both soils to satisfactory levels for conventional crops, with and without the application of cattle manure, gypsum and sulfuric acid.

Palabras llave : flushing water; cattle manure; gypsum; sulfuric acid.
