HERRERA-MARTINEZ, Silvia Lizbeth et al. Effect of ascorbic acid on growth, photosynthetic pigments and peroxidase activity of rosebush. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.3, pp.193-199. ISSN 2395-8030.
Ascorbic acid (AA) is involved in many physiological processes such as photosynthesis and redox homeostasis. It also functions as enzyme cofactor and precursor of molecule synthesis routes in primary and secondary metabolism. The effect of AA on rosebush (Rosa sp) FeteraTM variety in the greenhouse was studied as an antioxidant molecule and as an alternative compound involved in growth responses. Also studied were photosynthetic pigment content and enzymatic activity of POX in improvement of crop yield. Plants were sprayed twice weekly with 0, 600 and 1200 mg L-1 for five months. There was a positive trend in height, diameter and number of lateral buds. There was also an increase in photosynthetic pigments and POX enzyme activity. The partial results of this study indicate that AA is a potentially useful compound for increasing growth of rosebushes.
