Resumen

RAMIREZ-MARTINEZ, Maribel et al. Bioaccumulation of potassium, calcium and lanthanum in tulip treated with lanthanum. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.3, pp.229-238. ISSN 2395-8030.

We performed a factorial experiment in hydroponics under greenhouse conditions in order to evaluate the effect of treating tulip (Tulipa gesneriana L.) with lanthanum on the accumulation of potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and lanthanum (La) in leaves per plant. The factors studied were: concentration of La in the nutrient solution (0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 μM) and source of La [LaCl3 and La(NO3)36H2O]. Significant differences were observed in the accumulation of K and Ca in leaves by effect of the factor La concentration, with the highest values observed in plants treated with 10 and 20 μM and a reduction in those plants treated with 30 μM of La. La accumulation in leaves as an effect of La concentration in the nutrient solution was divided into three groups according to the statistical significance observed: the first, that observed in control plants; the second, that registered in plants treated with La concentrations between 5 and 30 μM; and the third group, which included plants treated with 40 μM La. Significant differences between La sources evaluated were observed, with the highest accumulation of K, Ca and La registered in plants treated with LaCl3. The correlation was high between La supply and K, Ca and La accumulation in leaves, and between K, Ca and La accumulation with the La sources evaluated, both for LaCl3 and for La(NO3)36H2O. We conclude that La has synergic effects on Ca and K uptake in tulip, and given the fact that no negative effects are observed in plants, we recommend its use to improve the production of this ornamental species.
