The maize hybrids H-47AE, H-50 AE, AE H-51 have been developed by the National Institute for Research of Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock (INIFAP) at the Experimental Station Valley of Mexico (CEVAMEX). These hybrids have both the andro-esterile and fertile versions. To optimize the technology of seed production, a research was conducted to know the adequate plant density and fertilization. This research was carried out throughout the spring summer season 2007, at the ranch Almaraz of the Faculty of Superior Studies in Cuautitlan (UNAM). Treatments that were considered in the study were: the single cross parents of H-47, H-50 and H-51 in both versions male sterile and fertile. The fertilization treatments were 150-70-40 and no fertilization; using two population densities, 50 000 and 70 000 plants ha-1). The best performance was obtained with plant density of 70 000 plants ha-1 and the hybrid H-47 (10 302 kg ha-1); in contrast, the lower production was obtained by H-50 (8974 kg ha-1). Moreover, it was found that, on the average, hybrid andro-esterile version yielded 9864 kg ha-1, which was not statistically different to the fertile version and the treatment with the fertilization yielded 10 377 kg ha-1, significantly different to the one without fertilization (8769 kg ha-1).
