FLORES-GALLARDO, Hilario et al. The degree day's and the integral programming irrigation in potato crop. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.1, pp.59-67. ISSN 2395-8030.

Potatoes are very sensitive to excesses and deficiencies in soil moisture. Using a model based on the degree day concept let to carry out a better irrigation programming because it takes into account climatic local variations. This let to determine more precisely the beginning of the phenological stages of the crop and their respective water demands, in this way the irrigation efficiency can be increased. This investigation was carried out during two agricultural years for the autumn- winter cycle (2005-2006 and 2006-2007) in the north of Sinaloa. Twenty three plots were used in the study with a total area of 746.54 ha. The degree day’s concept model was applied on 12 of these plots and a system called SPRITER-FAO, which is the acronym in Spanish for irrigation forecast system in real time, was applied to the remaining 11 plots. The SPRITER-FAO system is used in some of the irrigation modules of the 075 district Río Fuerte. Irrigation amounts recommended by two systems were compared; also the irrigation efficiency and the number of irrigations were discussed by climatic variability. In the cycle 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, it was obtained in experimental plots 7 and 9 Mg ha-1 more than yield with regard to the remaining plots, respectively, as well 22.2 and 17.5% more efficiency in the applied irrigations.

Palavras-chave : irrigation scheduling; yield; climatic variability.
