Resumen

BAUTISTA-CRUZ, Angélica; ARNAUD-VINAS, María del Rosario  y  CARRILLO-GONZALEZ, Rogelio. Trace Elements Concentration in Two Agricultural Areas. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.2, pp.123-131. ISSN 2395-8030.

In this study the total concentration of trace elements (TE) in agricultural topsoils (0-30 cm) from two zones close to Oaxaca City, Mexico was measured: 1) surface area irrigated for a long time with municipal wastewater (ZIMWW); and 2) from the pottery zone (PZ), wherelead oxide has been used in enamels. In soils from the ZIMWW, the average concentration of TE had the following sequence: Mn > Ba > Zn > Sr > Cu > Cr > Ni > Pb > Co > Sc > As > Ag > Bi > Sn > Se > Be > Cd. In soils from the PZ, the sequence was: Mn > Ba > Sr > Zn > Cu > Cr > Ni > Pb > Co > Sc > Ag > As > Bi > Be > Sn > Se > Cd. None of the TE measured exceeded the permissible limits for non contaminated soils. We found significant differences only in Ba and Be concentration, which was greater in the PZ soil. Manganese had the highest concentration in both zones. Soil samples showed low clay content, with a moderately alkaline pH value and high organic matter (OM), a cation exchange capacity (CEC) and exchangeable Ca2+ and Mg2+ concentrations. The lineal regression analysis showed that the TE in soils were associated with soil properties such as pH, OM, CEC and clay content. Apparently, till now the irrigation with wastewater and lead deposits from emissions or spills during the manufacture of ceramics have not increased the TE concentration in the sampled soils.

Palabras llave : wastewater; pottery; lead exposure; manganese.
