RUIZ-RAMIREZ, Juan. Relative efficiency and quality of fertilization experiments in sugar cane. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.2, pp.149-154. ISSN 2395-8030.
In agricultural experimentation, a recurrent problem is using an experimental design without evaluating its relative efficiency compared with another less complex. It is equally important to know the variability in experiments on sugar cane. The basic coefficient of variation was thus used as an indicator to measure experimental quality. The objetive of the present study was to evaluate the relative efficiency and the quality of experiments in sugar cane carried out in the States of Veracruz and Oaxaca in Mexico. The methodology consisted of analyzing the data from 12 sugar cane fertilization experiments by randomized complete block design. The relative efficiency was calculated with the results from the analysis of variance in order to evaluate the efficiency of the randomized complete block design compared to a completely randomized design. Our results suggest that in 58% of the above mentioned experiments, the experimental design was appropriate. Twenty-five percent did not attain the expected quality, and it is therefore recommended to identify the factors that influence the results.
