Abstract

VALLE PANIAGUA, Raúl del; ARJONA, Enrique; BUENO, Graciela  and  OLESCHKO LUTKOVA, Klaudia. Modeling processes of the soil water regime. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.2, pp.161-168. ISSN 2395-8030.

An interactive simulation system for modeling four processes of the water regime of agricultural soils was designed and implemented in a software. The processes modeled are: infiltration, capillary rise, evapotranspiration, and surface runoff. In the system, special emphasis was put on computational efficiency of the numerical algorithms used for the solution of the non-linear differential equations involved in the models, data maintenance and reusability through computer utilities custom developed for the management of the required databases, simultaneous output of numerical and graphical results, and flexibility of input and output interfaces. The objective of the developed system is to provide an easy to use powerful computational tool that can serve as an aid in teaching and research. The system was validated with real data and has been used in teaching and research for the modeling of water transport in tepetate soils with diverse water potential values.

Keywords : soil hydrology; interactive simulation; computer aided analysis; numerical modeling.
